There is a show on cable TV called to “Catch a thief.” The premise is that two ex-burglars  find a home or business that needs added security and then go the owner and do a walk through. They identify potential safety issues and entry points and assist the owner in helping to improve their security. Then within a week they send in their expert burglar to see if they can break into the home or business. After the break-in which is all captured on tape and the owner watches they get together and talk about ways to improve their security. One of the homes they featured was out in the woods that was a very high end home with lots of valuable that were virtually unprotected. The owner had a security gate, like the ones that you see from manufacturers like liftmaster, or osco. What was interesting that the owner who was a single male didn’t have the gate activated so that anyone could drive up to his estate with no warning. Plus there were multiple areas where the owner left doors and windows unlocked. The ex-burglars had a field day with this particular home and once they were finished the owner knew he had do something drastic.

So after they viewed the tapes with experts they installed a motion sensor throughout the entire home, video cameras on the outside of the home and fixed the gate to make it a functional security barrier. Most homes and businesses are not this vulnerable, but you do you see that people take their safety for granted and do not feel that anything can happen to them.
