The earliest pens were developed by the Chinese using camel or rat hair in the first BC. The writing surfaces were in need of advancement which is where the Egyptians come in . They were successful in turning Papyrus reed into thin sheets thus accepting fine lines of colored liquid. Much of the writings that are around from those ancient periods are from the pen written on papyrus. Today the pen has changed a little, but most writing instruments are still true to their roots and not much advancement has taken place in the last several years. Many companies use advertising pens as a way to brand their company and create name recognition.
