With the latest Consumer Electronics Show just wrapping up many of the new tech toys showcased were tablets and laptops. The newer laptops are now becoming thinner and offering an extended battery life. This is in part to compete with the tablets that are eroding the PC and laptop market. With the newer, faster and more energy efficient processors laptops are able to become thinner and offer more speed without draining the battery. You will see more new laptops introduced throughout the summer as the competition heats up.

With this years trade shows and all the new entertainment and electronic gadgets it is not wonder that these companies need to break through the noise and get noticed at the various trade shows. Many companies are using interactive displays with a customized Trade Show Displays  to help them engage the consumer and provide a more hands on approach to some of the new technology that is available while keeping their brand and products front a and center. While we were in San Francisco for another meeting this year, which just happen to be the week that Mac was holding one of their annual conferences. The trade show was especially interesting seeing all the different partners and what they were offering for the new AirMac, and iPad. The trade show booths were quite impressive and as you would expect very technology driven. Many of them had consumer interactive components that allowed the customer to get involved with the booth rather than just seeing information. This was a great experience as we got to view the upcoming technology that will be launched to the general public within the next few months. This year I made an investment in a wireless printer that was probably one of the best investments that I have made when upgrading one of my computing components. It was designed to do small business work along with some poster printing capabilities. With the multi print cartridges we wanted to look for one that had inkjet cartridges that would not cost a fortune. I have set up our wireless network with the latest wireless-N router and the access points and speed that we saw when upgraded was very impressive. We have two laptops and three other PC’s throughout the house that our entire family can use to access the internet and surf, check out facebook, or play games. What I found is that there many times when my kids or wife wanted to be able to print something out and this caused a great deal of aggravation. I also checked out the ability for poster printing at our small business and the costs can be quite substantial. Since we only had one computer that was hooked up to the printer our options were to save the file to a memory stick, or physically hook up the laptop or PC to the printer.
The one that we purchased also had the faxing and scanning features which were great additions. Plus it had three separate printer ink cartridges to help the overall cost. The scanning feature allows you to scan any image to any computer that is connected to the network. Plus the fact that this wireless printer was so easy to install we just followed the instructions that came with it and had all 5 computers hooked and printing within 30 minutes total. Now my kids can do their homework from the dining table together and if there is any research that they need done they can simply print it off without the hassle. We have even given limited access to neighbors so that if they need something printed in color they can just send it on over. The security on our device is very impressive and the quality is just as good as any other ink jet printer.

If you walk through any consumer or business trade show you will more than likely come out with a bag stuffed with promotional trade show items like marketing pens that help companies keep their name in front of the customer. I was watching the Shark Tank last week and they had a lady on who was trying to gain investment in her maternity clothing line of t-shirts. It was a creative idea where the month the baby was due was printed on the front of the shirt. Since this is a common question that women get when they are pregnant it made a lot of sense. The only problem that she had is that there was not patent on the idea or exclusive rights to the design and names that she had produced so anyone could come along and simply copy the idea. Needless to say the sharks declined to invest due to the nature of the ruthless retail business and there was no upside to pouring money into her company.

I don’t like attending weddings in general. It is a lot better when you can be a wedding guest and don’t actually have to take a role in the wedding process. With all the choices the bride has like choosing among numerous wedding dresses to what kind of music will be played. One of the things I do look forward to is the wedding music and wedding songs. I find it interesting to see how different couples pick certain songs to be played or sung at their weddings. If I had a voice people wanted to listen to, I wouldn’t mind being a wedding singer. I love it when they have karaoke machines at the wedding for the guests to show their stuff. It seems like easy work and work that would pay good for singing 1 or 2 songs. I have some really good memories of weddings, where a special person was invited to sing a popular love song. Some people really have the talent to sing these songs and they can run chills up your spine; when you hear them sing a wedding song.

If your car breaks down; while you’re driving it, I hope you can make it to the side of the roadway. It’s no fun to be stuck in the middle of the road and waiting for roadside assistance to arrive. If your car needs major repairs, you might just have to rely on a towing company for assistance. You can join a roadside assistance club to help in the event of a break down. I know this isn’t any fun, but often we don’t have a choice in the matter. Even if we keep our cars in tip top shape and do all the things we are suppose to do, it can still breakdown on the road with us. I don’t like any car problems, but the ones where your car just won’t crank at home, is probably the best case scenario for a car breakdown.

Last year there was a company that was doing engraved trade show displays and you would have thought that they were giving away $100 bills. It is amazing to see what people will stand in line for these days. You must always keep your name in front of the customer and make sure that your marketing message is consistent across all channels in order to maximize brand awareness. There are even companies that are branching out from the everyday pens to footwear. There are some companies that make customize flip flops and slippers for customers as promotional items. This is something that I have not seen but sounds like a great marketing idea for some companies this year at the upcoming trade shows.
