The move to Full HD is simple: This will enable the consumer to watch 1080P programs that are streamed via their broadband connection with having to stretch or shrink the original picture. And with Samsungs new LCD monitors you will be able to connect your new full HD monitor to your laptop a very impressive feature. The last item worth mentioning is the all in one PC that will become a major installation in many homes as the move to view broadband via streaming video over the internet becomes more common place.

Make your mark at the trade show

We were in San Francisco for another meeting this year, which just happen to be the week that Mac was holding one of their annual conferences. The trade show was especially interesting seeing all the different partners and what they were offering for the new AirMac, and iPhone. The trade show booths were quite impressive and as you would expect very technology driven. There were cardboard display items of some of the high profile people who use and talk about the technology to get people in the booths. Many of them had consumer interactive components that allowed the customer to get involved with the booth rather than just seeing information. This was a great experience as we got to view the upcoming technology that will be launched to the general public within the next few months.

Wireless gaming

The video game industry is more popular than ever and today’s games are moving from our tv sets to the computers. I know the main attraction is that people can play all over the world together and the internet is connecting us in more ways than ever imagined. Most people are upgrading their Linksys router to handle the high band width that is now required for gaming. Someone in another state or country could be walking through a jungle with you on a computer video game and they could be shooting at all of the bad guys and animals that were coming out to get you. So I believe this one of the big reasons video games are focusing on our computers compared to the games of yesterday, which was on the television screens. One thing that all video game players will want on their computer is a good graphics card so they can play all of the latest games that are out there now.

Alerting parents and students

I was just reading about this great new school alert system that can allow local schools send out a message to parents and students either through email or texting in the event of and emergency or status update. I thought this is a great idea especially now in the Winter months when we are coming up on bad road conditions and the schools could send out a text alerting parents and students that school has been delayed. This can also be used in the case there is something happening at the school and the parents need to be notified. This was help keep my wife and I up to the minute no matter where we are.

Is backing up files online safe

We have read about and looked into various online backup systems and companies and for the most part we can say that they are safe. We have started using two separate services to help archive our blogs and pictures outside of our normal hosting company. This was done to help create a secondary backup because we are not a big fan in keeping all of our files with one provider. So how can you tell if a company is safe and will be a secure place to keep your files? First research the company online by doing a simple search and you will quickly find out if there are any complaints. Second investigate their website and understand their privacy policies to know that they will protect your privacy. Lastly, make sure that they have some sort of guarantee in the event of a event that may cause them to lose your files.

cleaner air

We were noticing that our air conditioning was not getting the house cooled off after running for quite some time. We found out that our air filter had not been replaced on over three months and once we made the change the difference that we felt was amazing. We had invested in Filtrete air filters that were a step up from the contractor grade filters that allow you to change your air filter every 90 days. While that can be a great cost savings you have to remember to change that filter when required. We noticed that after we made the change air was cleaner as we saw less dust and the cooling system was working much better.

With all the competition in the HDTV arena the ability to have a home theater that can deliver exceptional sound and picture is very affordable. Many of the newer home theater systems are now offering wireless speaker setup so that you no longer have to string wire through your walls and you can place the speakers in more places. we just recently purchased a Sony system that has 6 speakers of which 2 of them can operate over the air and the sound that you get is amazing. Most of them come with calibration mics so that you can position your HDTV and your speakers for the optimum effect. So why not upgrade your TV experience and look at some of the great values that are out there today.

Visual Impact

I have noticed that in large retails chains and electronics stores that we are seeing more cardboard displays that are really eye catching and have impact. I was in a large retail electronics store and they had a large display with the latest Microsoft software that was interactive in that it had a touch screen feature that allowed to find the appropriate software and then you were able to choose it right from the display. This made sense and actually you could see that it was effective as most of the versions were gone from the shelves. This type of interactive advertising can be very profitable as customer are more likely to buy something that is right in front of them instead of traveling from isle to isle.

IT will benefit from the stimulus package

There are several areas that should benefit from the stimulus package that was recently passed by both houses and signed into law by the President. One of the areas that should see benefit from the spending will be information technology. There is approx. $52 billion in the bill to help federal and state agencies update and upgrade technology. This will mean jobs in programming will become more attractive because local authorities will need experts to help them install and upgrade their current technology systems. While there still seems to a lot of unnecessary spending in the bill most of it should go to the purpose of helping to grow jobs which in the end should help our overall economy.

A camera for Christmas

For Christmas we got our oldest daughter a mini camcorder that allows her to film herself and and her friends. It is actually quite neat in that it will hold up to 30 minutes of video and also acts as a MP3 player and digital camera. Because of the limited memory of only 512 MB we invested in additional 4 GB memory that is easily transferred between her camcorder and the PC. You can now find memory sticks in sizes up to 16 GB, but with the 4 GB that we got it allows them now to store over 2 hours of video. Now the memory is outlasting the batteries which is fine because the creative content that they have created is well worth the added investment.

In the ever changing world of technology it is amazing how much computer memory devices can hold. I remember getting a 100 MB hard drive and thought that was never going to run out. As operating systems become more multifunctional and multimedia applications are now the main stream more memory and hard drive space is needed. It is now a standard to have at least 2 GB of memory in your system to help run todays operating systems and power the multi-media applications.

Designing your home theater

We are in the process of working with a contractor to finish our basement and one of the features that I want to have is an entertainment room. This would be where we would house a LCD TV along with some hi-fi stereo equipment that would provide full surround sound. The contractor has some great ideas about how to have the TV come out of the wall and using audio racks to help keep all the electronic components in one location that would be out of site of the main room. The whole thing would be wired so that there would only be one remote that would control everything. On paper this looks awesome and should come in right at our budget so this Fall we will be enjoying a theater like experience.
