I have had the great pleasure of coaching my kids soccer teams this fall and the enthusiasm and energy that I see with these young kids is great . My youngest daughter is just 6 and those kids just love to play. While the skills are still being developed we are teaching them that soccer can be fun and play a lot of different games to help them interact with each other and more importantly get touches on the ball. At this age they play a three a side which is nice since everyone gets a chance to touch the ball and has a chance to score. While when I was growing up at this age we had 11 players on each side and it was like a herd of cattle moving up and down the field. The one thing that they do not give out at this age group are trophies. This is because we do not keep score and we want to the kids to enjoy the game and not get caught up in the competition. This helps to teach the kids that everyone is a winner and as long as they play hard and have fun that is the ultimate goal.There will be plenty of time for that as they progress in the various age groups.
