We recently had the chance to move back closer to home and I must say the whole experience was very good. We had the luxury of having a moving company come in pack up our things and then move us across country. The great thing was how careful they were with every item from our TV’s to the kids toys. Moving yourself can be an experience especially if you are living in a big city and moving between apartments. When my teenaged daughters started behaving badly I didn’t know what to do. At first we thought they were just being normal rebellious teenagers until things started to get really bad. I moved recently and was lucky to find clear.com. I signed up for their wireless internet service and was able to get back online in no time. Good thing I was able to get the connection up quickly because I was really starting to rack up a bill on my cell phone. I knew that the financial results of that would not be pretty at the end of the month. I was trying to curtail my use because I knew I didn’t have any wireless service, but it was so difficult! I have gotten out of the habit of watching TV news, so there was that issue. I have to know what’s going on in the world so that meant checking a few websites every day. Then there was the matter of checking my bank account balances, and paying all of my bills online. There is no way any of us could get out of doing that. I don’t even think I know how to pay my bills by check anymore. I definitely had to read and respond to most of my emails too. The whole experience left me wondering what in the world people did before the internet.

This is the time of year when companies hold their year end awards banquets to recognize their top employees and salespeople. I have been privileged to have received several Corporate Awards for top sales and leadership. I am most proud of the award I received for my leadership role in a important project that lead to a reduction in overall training costs while improving overall engagement and learning of our sales training classes. Recognition from your bosses is great, but this was from my direct peers and this was extra special. We had a team that was looking at different solutions to help streamline training and use the most current technology so that we could train at our headquarters and also remotely. While we used the input of vendors our core team was responsible of helping gain leadership support and buy-in in order to make this project a success. Having employee awards that are based on the nomination of your peers in my opinion has the most impact. I have won sales trophies for exceeding goals and specified metrics which are all great, but those awards you get because of team effort is something you will remember much longer.

With this years trade shows and all the new entertainment and electronic gadgets it is not wonder that these companies need to break through the noise and get noticed at the various trade shows. The trade show booths were quite impressive and as you would expect very technology driven. There were Vinyl Banners of some of the high profile people who use and talk about the technology to get people in the booths. Many of them had consumer interactive components that allowed the customer to get involved with the booth rather than just seeing information. This was a great experience as we got to view the upcoming technology that will be launched to the general public within the next few months. The 2012 trade shows will surely impress with more focus on the latest technology in 3D and it’s place in gaming and possibly tablets.

Getting a drum set for Christmas

Ever since we got Rock Band for our gaming system my daughter has been asking me for a real drum set for Christmas. She loves to be able to keep up with the various songs on the game and actually does quite well and now wants to create even more noise with a real drum set. My wife and I are seriously thinking about getting her a started set, but we are trying to figure out where to put it since a real drum set does not a have a volume button unlike the game. I want to encourage my kids to try different instruments so we may have to bite the bullet and see where this takes us. Who know she may be the next upcoming musician to break out on YouTube.

Poster printing for big or small projects

This year I made an investment in a wireless printer that was probably one of the best investments that I have made when upgrading one of my computing components. It was designed to do small business work along with some poster printing capabilities. With the multi print cartridges we wanted to look for one that had inkjet cartridges that would not cost a fortune. I have set up our wireless network with the latest wireless-N router and the access points and speed that we saw when upgraded was very impressive. We have two laptops and three other PC’s throughout the house that our entire family can use to access the internet and surf, check out facebook, or play games. What I found is that there many times when my kids or wife wanted to be able to print something out and this caused a great deal of aggravation. I also checked out the ability for poster printing at our small business and the costs can be quite substantial. Since we only had one computer that was hooked up to the printer our options were to save the file to a memory stick, or physically hook up the laptop or PC to the printer.
The one that we purchased also had the faxing and scanning features which were great additions. Plus it had three separate printer ink cartridges to help the overall cost. The scanning feature allows you to scan any image to any computer that is connected to the network. Plus the fact that this wireless printer was so easy to install we just followed the instructions that came with it and had all 5 computers hooked and printing within 30 minutes total. Now my kids can do their homework from the dining table together and if there is any research that they need done they can simply print it off without the hassle. We have even given limited access to neighbors so that if they need something printed in color they can just send it on over. The security on our device is very impressive and the quality is just as good as any other ink jet printer.
